Yaseen Ghaleb (b. 1981, Basra, Iraq) is a writer, poet, and photographer based in Helsinki, Finland. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Basra. His work focuses on themes of identity, migration, and displacement, and he is an active advocate for freedom of expression.
Ghaleb writes in Arabic, English, and Finnish, contributing to Finnish literary magazines such as Elias, Nuori Voima, and Parnasso, as well as international platforms including Raseef22, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Qabas. His published works include the poetry collections Baghdad Throne and Stigma, the novel 15+, and the fictional memoir Al-Majida: I Was the President’s Wife. His play The Migratory Birds premiered in Helsinki in 2023, and his radio drama Latif, Who Do You Belong To? aired on Yle Radio 1 in 2024.
A member of several literary associations in Finland and abroad, Ghaleb also leads writing workshops in Arabic and English, fostering cross-cultural dialogue through literature.
