They say it doesn’t matter what you write about, but how you write it. Yet “di” and “dah” both signify rhythm — and there are meaningful differences in their essence.
Di dah is a new literary club by Nuoren Voiman Liitto that dives into the core of literature. In today’s literary discourse, works are often reduced to their themes, neatly categorized under clear-cut headlines. Di dah, however, pauses to examine rhythm, form, language, and structure — the very differences between “di” and “dah”: tones, lengths, emphases — the building blocks of literature itself.
The club offers writers and readers a space to discuss the deep structures of literary works — the literary code that often remains in the shadow of themes. Each session focuses on a few selected works and delves into their formal language.
The first Di dah session explores abundance in short and long forms. What is abundance? Is it about length, or where does the impression of richness come from? Poet Maria Matinmikko and authors Karissa Kettu and Vy Tram will discuss these questions through their latest works.
