Kasper Salonen x Itäväylä Sound System

“fraktaaliaavistuksia, sana-aavikon kangastuksia, kylmän avaruuden tulia, toistemme turvia”

Bilingual spoken word artist Kasper Salonen arrives at the Poetry Jam with a live band, aiming at setting free his new words into a cosmic experience. During half an hour, Salonen will perform brand new spoken word both in Finnish and in English, e.g. from his new poetry book Kiertoreittejä (Enostone 2021).

Salonen’s reading will be accompanied by a fresh new electronic band, Itäväylä Sound System (ISS) from Suvilahti, Helsinki. ISS creates enchanting sounds, imitating the control room of a space ship. Mikko Aaltonen and Tomas Valkonen will be playing the synthesizers and the music is composed through improvisation by the whole group in the recording sessions.

There is also a visual dimension in Salonen’s show. Aaltonen’s fractal patterns made with digital animation will at least open the third eye of the audience.

“silmissäni on jumalmolekyylejä, / liikutan raajoja kaarissa, haavoitan haaveitani harvoin— / uidaan siinä vedessä joka meissä ui, / tanssitaan kuin luurangot.”
