Merima Dizdarević

Merima Dizdarević is a writer and artist based in Malmö, Sweden. Born in Yugoslavia (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in 1983. Her practice is multidisciplinary and multilingual, encompassing poetry, essayistic criticism, translation, performance, acting and other disciplines.

She obtained her MFA in writing from the program in Literary Composition at HDK-Valand, the Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg where she is now a guest lecturer. As a teacher, she also designed and taught the cross-disciplinary course Skälens tunga at the Gothenburg Konsthall, which seeks to expand the range of voices engaged in arts criticism and new forms of criticism.

Her 2022 debut collection, far from the eye far from the heart, published by Albert Bonniers Förlag, was lauded by major Swedish critics. She is the recipient of several grants, stipends and artist residencies.

In her itinerant and multi-modal practice, Dizdarević seeks to investigate and problematize aesthetic and social hierarchies; in that effort, she is particularly invested in collaborative and multi-disciplinary projects which activate anti-fascist and decolonial theory and practice.

She is and has been a member of various artist collectives and music bands. Among others, Bröd & Rosor (Bread & Roses), a literary society dedicated to women and transgender people whose lives and work are impacted by migration and racism and the poetry performance collective BAM (with Burcu Sahin and Athena Farrokhzad) that will be publishing their first book together in August of this year at Ellerstöms publishing house.
