Tarja Härkönen has travelled a long way, because she has come here far away from Ilomantsi. And Spanish and Portuguese Literature, which she has been translating since 1989 takes her even further away, all the way to Brazil and beyond. She has translated around 60 books, mostly novels but also e.g. fados, she is especially known as a translator of so-called hard fiction. This reputation is based above all in Clarice Lispector. She has translated five books by her, one of them twice. Lately she has translated mainly from Portuguese, e.g. Paulo Lins, Cristovão Tezza and Luiz Ruffato. At the moment, she is translating a novel by José Luís Peixoto.
