March for the Arts 15.8.2024

Runokuu supports the March for the Arts demonstration and shares the concern for the future of arts and culture.

The Finnish government is planning massive cuts to the arts and culture sectors, threatening the livelihoods of arts professionals and cultural workers, the continuity of cultural institutions, and access to cultural programs across the country. 130,000 people work in the arts and culture sectors, along with many freelancers and self-employed individuals, and the future looks uncertain for all of us.

The March for the Arts demonstration, held on the Night of the Arts on August 15, invites everyone to celebrate the diversity of the arts and to dance for the future of arts and culture. It is time to gather and oppose the cuts, showing solidarity with all those affected by the government’s cuts.

The event is organized by ARTS AGAINST CUTS, Artists Against Cuts, a self-organized group of artists, art institutions, and workers from various fields of the arts.

Nuoren Voiman Liitto and Runokuu support the demonstration and share the concern for the future of arts and culture. Like the collective, we oppose unreasonable cuts because we believe that public funding should nurture, care for, and support the dignity of all people, regardless of socioeconomic status. We oppose cuts to the arts, culture, and education because the diversity and accessibility of these fields are crucial for the development of our society and creative thinking.
