Afternoon for Translated literature

The Afternoon for Translated Literature consists of four separate discussions:

Dylan Thomas. Author-translators Marja-Leena Mikkola and Jyrki Vainonen discuss the modernist poet Dylan Thomas (1914-1953). Mikkola has recently translated Thomas´s poetry into Finnish in a collection (Balladi pitkäsäärisestä syötistä). 

Anne Carson. Translators into Finnish, Kristian Blomberg and Kristiina Drews, will discuss their processes in translating the canadian poet, scholar and essayist. Host: Kimmo Kallio. 

Translation Slam. Translators Anne Ketola and Tarja Härkönen will translate a poem by the Mexican poet Daniel Bencomo, and battle with each other by justifying their translation choices. At the slam, the creativity and role of the translator will be in the spotlight. Host: author Hanna Rentola

James Meetze. Poet James Meetze writes about the crossings of remembering, metaphysics and myths. Meetze and his  translator into Finnish, poet Kaija Rantakari, will discuss the poetry of translation. Host: poet-translator Pauli Tapio

The event will be held at Tiivistämö’s outdoor stage. The event is free of charge. Registration here. Maximum number of visitors: 25 (Updated 12.8.)
