This year marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of Martta Bröyer (1897–1979). Bröyer, one of the pioneers of modern dance in Finland, created her own style in the 1920’s and 30’s, in which dance was accompanied by poetry recitation. The art form that, in it’s time, had a conflicted reception, now inspires dance artist Tiia Hämäläinen and sound artist Marika Hyvärinen. They have created a poetry-dance piece, where poems used by Bröyer meet modern day poetry, and the influences of her motion language melt into modern dance. As an introduction we will hear about Martta Bröyer’s life and career, which also included, in addition to dance, saving her old family home, nowadays known as the museum called Burgher’s House (Ruiskumestarin talo). The performance is executed in collaboration with Poetry Moon Festival, and is a part of the Poetry Moon OFF-event.
