What Remains? discussion

The video piece What remains? considers the indestructability of excess and the intrinsic role waste plays in our contemporary mode of life. The collage video piece consists of footage from fieldwork conducted with colleagues which is juxtaposed and merged with online digital excess that was appropriated for artistic use. A central element in the videos is the poetic voiceover, which asks fundamental, even troubling questions about our relationshipwith waste. The voiceover is accompanied by digitally manipulated trash sounds. The original form of the work is an installation with nine used tv sets, but here it is exhibited as a projected triptych version.

Olli Pyyhtinen, Niina Uusitalo, and Sonja Lampinen will discuss the creation and themes of the work.

The discussion will take place in Permantosali Hall at Tekstin talo on Wednesday, August 20 at 4:30 PM.
