The main event of the festival brings to the stage poetry that crosses national borders and unique performances that mix together sound art, music, video, and literature!
Tickets are 15 euros (members of Nuoren Voiman Liitto) / 18 euros (others). Buy tickets here. The venue collects a cloakroom fee.
The evening’s program includes international guests: Elo Viiding, one of the leading modern poets of Estonia, will perform in Estonian and in Finnish. We will also have readings by our Versopolis visitors, Anthony Vahni Capildeo (Trinidad and Tobago / The UK) and Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir (Iceland).
We will see a poetry video piece by media artist Leena Lehti, author Kaisa Happonen and multi-instrumentalist Juho Viljanen, called Kun sinä nukut (When you sleep). It is a multi artistic piece that depicts the state of the world infiltrating one’s dreams and taking over one’s mind.
Eeva Turunen‘s prose performance includes speech and musical sound. The textual material is from Turunen’s latest novel Sivistynyt ja miellyttävä ihminen (Siltala, 2022).
Author, poet Maria Matinmikko and composer J. Koho will bring to the stage a performance of text and electroacoustic music. Matinmikko’s upcoming book Valohämy – taide, maisema ja maailmanloppu (Siltala & Parvs, 2023) will be made into an experimental audiobook, which the performance will be based on. Matinmikko and Koho will produce the soundscape live on stage.
Last but not least we will hear a performance by Mikko Sarvanne, who will perform music from Heräämisen valkea myrsky, an album by the band Mikko Sarvanne Garden. The album won the 2023 Teosto Prize, one of the most noteworthy art prizes in the Nordic countries, and is based on a poetry collection of the same name by Erkka Filander.
