Tekla Inari: More than graffiti – Questions for 2026

The water level is rising, as is a feeling of bewilderment. Memories, emotions, perceptions, desires, and ideas all rise up from the hard, shadowy ground of the city. More than graffiti — Questions for 2026 is a work of poetry that records immediate, open experiences and thoughts in the form of a loose, broadly edited narrative. The narration is conveyed in overlapping chapters that the reader may interpret in parallel.

I began to develop the form of a question poem in my work from 2020, The end of the world is easier to imagine. Since then, more observations on the frail, complex reality of the present moment have emerged. The final work may be seen as a poetic protest song in times of deepening twilight. When the world is emptied of answers, do only questions remain? The work’s tangible form as a wide, thin scarf or bandana evokes being wrapped up as well as an act of resistance. This poetic meditation on creativity and the span of our days is akin to a modern Book of Questions.
